Bug day

It seems today was my Bug day. Jan Luebbe and me found a API breakage in dm-crypt in 2.6.19-rc3 which breaks yaird. Got a patch from Linus for it and it works again. Cool. :)

I also could confirm today that two other bugs I opened can be closed now. A problem with the new docking driver and my debian bug against gnome-btdownload.

But now I need to go back to my work on the ibm-acpi-led_subsystem.patch to get it ready for lkml submit.

FON_datenfreihafen.org available.

Today my La Fonera arrived. You get it for free in Germany at the moment. The first thing I thought was: It is really small, only the half of my hand.

La Fonera is the next generation of FON AP's. You have two ESSID'S. One for public and one for private use. The public one is called FON_datenfreihafen.org . The FON_ prefix is mandatory and I like the idea of this namespace.

The private ESSID is crypted with WPA or WPA2 on your choice. I was surprised as I saw the AP advertised both:
eth1 Scan completed :

I never saw this before. Not sure if this is fine with the WIFI standard. But NetworkManger connects fine anyway. :)

But there is also a bad news. La Fonera is not as open as the firmware of the WRT54G version was. Not sure if I this way. Here is a Licence Statement.

ibm-acpi integration in the LED subsystem.

The last nights I spent some hours to integrate the led and ThinkLight features from ibm-acpi into the new LED subsystem of the linux kernel.

My first idea was to write a new driver, like drivers/leds/corgi.c . But after some suggestions I prepared a patch to do this inside ibm-acpi.c .

I sent them out to linux-thinkpad for testing. Once the the bugs and problems are fixed I'll submit them upstream. I hope for the 2.6.20 merge window.

Unscheduled downtime of datenfreihafen.org

Today datenfreihafen.org was down the last 9 hours. We had to change the IP address today, but unfortunately had forgotten about this. :)

That's why it took longer as expected. Everything should be working again now.

Yeah, serial console on the phone is working.

Together with Jochen Fireling I was able to get a serial console on the phone working today.

It was not as easy as we hoped, but finally we got it. We used the way Harald described a long time ago: FFUART at the EMU.

This method has the advantage that you don't need to open your phone. Hopefully this will encourage some more people to try it.

I started a wiki page which Jochen and I will fill up within the next days.

Happy hacking.
